Waste is piling up around us, and we are struggling to get rid of it. The linear economy is marked by endless consumption. People are brought up to participate in this system from an early age. There is a Dutch saying about looking at stuff instead of buying it, and this has shifted over to buying stuff and don’t look at it. The economic model of consumption is still growing, which exacerbates the ecological crisis. Since we are living in a linear economical system, profits prevail over values. Through technical or functional manipulation, products are rapidly made obsolete as innovations entice consumers to get rid of “old” items without much thought. There is a need and a way to change this, but we have to do it together.
